Who's appeared in court recently?

Our latest round-up from Tameside Magistrates Court includes a host of driving offences, abusive behaviour and teenagers banned from shops.

A motorist chased through the streets of Manchester by police has been jailed.

Tameside magistrates heard how Mark Cavanagh had driven dangerously along Heathfield Street, Manchester, driving on the wrong side of the road and mounting the pavement while the police were in pursuit.

He pleaded guilty to the charge which had happened on October 31 last year.

He also admitted a charge of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Tameside magistrates jailed the 28-year-old, of Vulcan Street, Oldham, for 18 weeks and banned him from the road for two years.

He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

 

Three people have been charged following a series of violent robberies in Manchester city centre. 

Samuel Cretu, 21, of Alton Street, Oldham, has been charged with four counts of robbery, one count of section 18 assault and one count of conspiring to commit fraud and false representation. 

Adionut Cretu, also 21, of Alton Street, Oldham, has been charged with four counts of robbery, one count of section 18 assault and one count of conspiring to commit fraud and false representation. 

A 15-year-old lad, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with four counts of robbery, one count of section 18 assault and one count of conspiring to commit fraud and false representation. 

The charges relate to seven separate reports of robberies occurring north of the city centre, focussed on the Northern Quarter, in the early hours of January 5, and also one assault and robbery in Union Street, Oldham on Sunday, January 12. 

 

Disqualified driver Karl Buckley has been jailed for 14 weeks by Tameside magistrates after getting back behind the wheel.

The 59-year-old, of Honeywell Lane, Oldham, had denied a series of driving offences relating to October 16, 2018.

In all he was charged with driving while disqualified, without insurance, without due care and attention plus failing to stop when required to do so by police.

Despite pleading not guilty he was found guilty of all the charges by the court and       handed the prison term. 

Magistrates stated the offences were aggravated by the defendant’s previous record of similar offending.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £115.

 

Duane Longden was almost three times over the legal drink drive limit when stopped by police in Ashton, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 33-year-old, of Matlock Avenue, Ashton, was stopped on Hampson Road on November 24 and found to have 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and magistrates ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work plus banned him from the road for three years and four months. 

He was also issued with a community order.

He must pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by some ten months if a specific driving course is successfully completed.

 

A Manchester motorist was found to be over the drink drive limit when stopped on Old Road in Ashton last month.

Yekuno McDonald-Edwards, 24, was found to have 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath as he drove through the area on December 14. The legal limit is 35. He admitted the offence.

Tameside magistrates banned him from the road for 12 months, fined him £120, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £32.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by three months if a driving course is successfully completed.

His address was given as Old Hall Lane, Rusholme.

 

Joenade Shahid has been ordered to carry out 180 hours unpaid work by Tameside magistrates for causing damage at a bar and being threatening and abusive.

He pleaded guilty to damaging the urinals at Ashton’s Oliver’s Bar, plus three separate charges of being threatening and abusive.

All of the charges related to incidents on August 23. Magistrates ordered the 28-year-old, of Tennyson Avenue, Dukinfield, to pay £100 compensation, plus £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

 

A Failsworth man found with drugs in Oldham has been slapped with a £600 bill by Tameside magistrates.

Jack Johnson, 27, of Middleton Avenue, pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis and cocaine on October 20.

He was fined a total of £500, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered the drugs be forfeited and destroyed.

 

Breaking court orders by entering Ashton’s Arcades shopping centre has landed Yasar Mahmood behind bars for ten weeks.

The 38-year-old, of Cranbrook Gardens, Ashton, had been prohibited from entering the centre by a criminal behaviour order.

But on January 7 he broke that order and stole three fleeces from Trespass stores in the Arcades worth £90.

Pleading guilty to both offences he was jailed by magistrates.

 

A teenager banned from entering Oldham town centre stole headphones from a central store worth £35, Tameside magistrates heard.

The court jailed 19-year-old Lewis McDermott, of no fixed abode, for ten weeks for the offences which had happened on December 2 last year.

Magistrates said the offences were aggravated by breaching the court orders.

He was ordered to pay £35 compensation for the stolen goods.

 

Kane Maddock has been issued with a restraining order by Tameside magistrates after admitting a charge of assault.

The 30-year-old, of Bishop Close, Ashton, had initially denied the offence which had happened in Oldham on May 25. However, he later changed his plea to guilty. He is prohibited from having contact with the complainant as a result of the order.

Magistrates fined him £108, plus ordered him to pay £200 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

 

Oliver Mountfield has been given a 12 months conditional discharge for the theft of an item worth £23 from an individual in Ashton.

Tameside magistrates heard the offence had taken place last December 10.

The 32-year-old admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £21.

His address was given as care of Hawthorn Road South, Droylsden.

 

A 22-year-old Oldham man caused £150 damage to a front door at a property in the town, Tameside magistrates heard.

Mohammed Zaman, of Wainsford Walk, admitted causing the damage on October 16 last year and was issued with a restraining order by the court.

He was fined £50 plus ordered to pay £150 compensation and ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge.

 

Lee Fieldhouse was handed a community order when he appeared before Tameside magistrates.

The 37-year-old, of Oldham Road, Failsworth, admitted a charge of being threatening and abusive in the town on January 6.

He must pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £85.

 

A Tameside youth has been banned from part of Droylsden’s shopping centre for offences of theft and threatening unlawful violence.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to both offences which had happened in the town on October 23 last year.

Tameside Youth Court referred him to the borough’s youth offender panel for nine months.

He was also issued with three separate restraining orders, meaning he must have no contact with three separate individuals.

Magistrates also ordered that compensation totalling £300, plus £200 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge must all be paid.

The teenager’s parent/guardian must pick up the £520 bill.

 

Adam Denton used violence to enter a property in Droylsden and assaulted a woman inside, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 24-year-old, of no fixed abode, admitted both charges relating to an incident  on December 1 last year.

Magistrates jailed him for a total of 14 weeks, hearing the occupants of the house were asleep at the time and left terrified.

They issued the defendant with a restraining order plus instructed him to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £122.

 

Parents from across Tameside and Oldham are facing hefty fines after failing to ensure their children regularly attend school.

Fines of more than £400 were issued by Tameside magistrates to parents in some instances. They must also pay associated court costs in excess of £100.

A number of parents appeared before the magistrates.

 

Nathan Boorthroyd, 23, of St Mary’s Street, Oldham, has been jailed by Tameside Magistrates’ Court for 14 days for failing to comply with court orders. 

He admitted being in breach of the requirements.

 

Paul Johnstone, 35, of Newton Hall Road, Hyde, breached court orders and was fined £50 plus ordered to pay £60 court costs by Tameside magistrates. He admitted the offence.
