Who's appeared in court lately?

Here's our weekly round-up of the latest cases at Tameside Magistrates'.

 

‘Persistent’ offender Rachael Shaughnessy has been jailed for a total of 18 weeks by Tameside magistrates.

She had denied a charge of assaulting an individual in Denton on February 1 this year, but was found guilty by the court.

The 28-year-old, of no fixed address, did however plead guilty to taking items from Wilko’s in Denton worth £30 without paying on the same date.

She also admitted taking groceries from the Co-op in Audenshaw on March 23 worth £65.75, plus being in breach of previous court orders.

Magistrates labelled her a ‘persistent’ offender and jailed her. She must also pay a £122 victim surcharge.

 

 

Blatantly disregarding court orders has landed Stefan Howse behind bars for 40 weeks.

Tameside magistrates heard that the 25-year-old breached a criminal behaviour order by entering Ashton’s Asda store on Cavendish Street.

He also went into Poundstretcher in Ashton town centre and the town’s Wilkinsons store.

All of the incidents had happened last month, while on March 11 he had also stolen items from Asda valued at £59.

The previous order had banned him from visiting any of the stores.

Magistrates jailed him for the 40 weeks stating he had shown a flagrant disregard for people and their property.

He was also ordered to pay £59 compensation.

His address was given as Margaret Street in Ashton.

 

 

A 29-year-old disqualified driver who motored through Ashton while more than two times over the drink drive limit has been given a suspended jail sentence by Tameside magistrates.

Inam Uddin pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on Lees Road, Ashton, on March 25, and found to have 98 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

Magistrates handed him an 18 weeks prison term, suspended for two years for his flagrant disregard of court orders.

He was also given an 18 weeks curfew order, meaning he must remain at his address between the hours of midnight and noon for the duration of the order.

Magistrates banned him from the road for four years, four months and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

His address was given as Poppy Road, Oldham.

 

 

Tameside magistrates have given Dean Dolan a 12 months conditional discharge.

The 46-year-old appeared by live video link from HM Strangeways Prison charged with being in possession of an air rifle in Ashton on August 28 last year having been sentenced to a jail term.

He pleaded guilty and must pay a £20 victim surcharge.

 

 

Gregory Mullender was fined £100 by Tameside magistrates for breaching a criminal behaviour order.

The 55-year-old, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to entering Failsworth precinct on March 23 while subject to the order banning him from visiting the area.
