WATCH: Tameside Civic Mayor's Christmas message to you

The Mayor of Tameside Cllr Janet Cooper has made a special video with Quest Media Network to wish everyone across the borough best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

The Civic Mayor, also councillor for Longdendale, said: “I’d like to wish you all the very best for the festive season.

“I’d love to wish you joy, health and happiness, but most of all something that I think we all need this year, which has been the most horrendous year, is peace of mind - I think we are all craving that so I really do wish you all that.”

The Mayor’s message was one of a series of Christmas messages created for Tameside Radio and broadcast in the countdown to Christmas Day.

Those participating have included Leader of Tameside Council, Cllr Brenda Warrington and Chief Executive Steven Pleasant.

Sending her best wishes to residents, the Leader said 2020 had been a tough year, but light was now at the end of the tunnel with a vaccine.

However, she also appealed to everyone to continue to abide by the Covid rules and regulations to help keep coronavirus rates in the borough as low as possible - and to get vaccinated when called.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council Executive Member (Lifelong Learning, Equalities, Culture and Heritage) also wished everyone a happy holiday and paid special tribute to all those who have worked to keep schools open during the crisis.

“Their work has been tremendous and I thank everyone in all schools,” she said.

Cllr Bill Fairfoull, Tameside Council Deputy Executive Leader (Children and Families) also had a special message of thanks to all of the region’s foster carers and seasonal wishes for all cared for children.
