Tesco award £5000 to a Stalybridge primary school

On Saturday 16 March, Tesco Express on Mossley Road donated £5000 to a local Tameside school.

The store handed the sum over to Gorse Hall Primary & Nursery School as part of their Stronger Starts initiative.

Stronger Starts is Tesco's way of supporting children in local communities, they encourage customers to vote in store for a staggered donation then votes are counted every quarter and selected charities receive an amount.

This weekend's charities included the school start-up breakfast club, Rueben's Retreat and another raising money for children's football equipment.

"We were nominated to present the Golden Token to a local children's charity," store manager, Sam Barnes said.

"Golden Grants is where one store is chosen to make witness a customer finding the Golden Token and their vote means an extra £5000."

She continued: "I spoke with their representative and they have told me what this money will mean to their school breakfast club. A new offering for all children in the school so that they can start their day with full tummies. Just brilliant.

"We at Mossley Road Tesco are very proud to be chosen for Golden Grants and what a way to support our local community and families in the area!"
