Paramedics checked over the 19-year-old male and then contacted Greater Manchester Police about the incident.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a 'stable' condition.

A cordon was in place throughout Sunday morning on Market Street, between the junctions of Water Street and Queen Street.
