Tameside's first Digital Pride promises lots of fun

Tameside's first ever Digital Pride will take place this evening (Friday), with a fabulous night of charitable fun planned amid the lockdown.

It will be streamed on the Tameside Pride website and on their Facebook page from 6.30pm until late.

Everyone is welcome to tune in and there will be a range of great entertainment including: Ru Paul’s Drag Race’s Charlie Hides, La Voix, Misty Chance, Stephanie Aird, Xander, Keira, Trinity Leigh as Pink, Vicky Dean, Aura Lee and more, ending with a DJ later on.

They will be raising money for the charity Aries UK to continue to support the work of Tameside Pride and the local LGBT community, as well as splitting all donations equally to help our local NHS heroes at Tameside Hospital.

Text TAMESIDE 3 to 70085 to donate £3 - or change the 3 to a higher number to give more. You can also donate via their Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/tamesidepride2020

Last year's inaugural Tameside Pride event at Cheetham Park in Stalybridge attracted 2,000 attendees and was hailed a huge success by chair of the organising committee Cllr Oliver Ryan.

Unfortunately, this summer’s Tameside Pride couldn't go ahead as planned due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent Government guidance on social distancing, which is why the digital event has been arranged.

Organisers are determined to celebrate strength in diversity, and continue to celebrate the LGBT+ community and support its vital work.

Chair of Tameside Pride’s Organising Committee Councillor Oliver Ryan said: “We’re really pleased to be doing this, special thanks to everyone involved and volunteering to make this happen.

"Tameside has really come together through this pandemic and by hosting this Digital Tameside Pride, we’re doing our bit as an LGBT+ community to support not only our NHS, but everyone in our borough to get through this. Stay safe everyone."

Over on the Tameside Pride Facebook page, they have already received messages of support from Eurovision star Nicki French, Carl Austin-Behan, LGBT advisor to the Mayor of Greater Manchester, and others which you can watch.
