Last chance to donate to Tameside Toy Appeal

Today (Friday) is the final opportunity for you to give vital donations towards this year's Tameside Toy Appeal.

There’s still time to bring some Christmas magic to local children and young people living in poverty.

This year especially, Christmas will be a difficult period for many families in Tameside and due to these unprecedented times, the Tameside Toy Appeal is more vital than ever.

An incredible 2,000 toys have been donated through immense generosity so far, but the appeal run by Action Together and supported by Tameside Council, Tameside Reporter and Tameside Radio - are still reaching out for donations.

There is currently a shortage of gifts suitable for those under two and teenagers, meaning any donations for this demographic would be hugely appreciated.

The easiest way to donate or help with any funds to buy gift vouchers, especially for teenagers, is via the dedicated JustGiving page.

As always you can still donate new and used toys and gifts at any children’s centre, Asda in Ashton or one of the many chosen community drop of points. The deadline for donations finish is Friday (11 December) so they are hoping for one last push of gifts.

The appeal would also like to thank the 60 doorstop elves and 32 sleigh drivers who have worked tirelessly to collect and deliver toys to children’s centres, these are then distributed to local families in need.

Tameside Council Executive Member Cllr Bill Fairfoull, who is responsible for children and families, said: "There has been a fantastic response to the Tameside Toy Appeal – thank you to everyone who has already donated or is volunteering their time.

"However, we still need more donations to ensure every child and young person living in poverty receives a Christmas present – particularly babies and teenagers, who people don’t always think to buy for. It really does make a difference so please do give generously and help bring some smiles on Christmas Day morning."
