Round-up: Who's appeared in court?

A driver who sped at 68mph in a 30mph zone, a man found with a Stanley knife outside a shop and a man who assaulted three people in Ashton are among the people who have appeared before Tameside magistrates recently.

Drink driver threatening and abusive

Hyde driver George Bridge has been banned from the road for a total of 20 months by Tameside Magistrates’ Court for a charge of drink driving.

The 26-year-old, of Firtree Avenue, pleaded guilty to the charge, plus being threatening and abusive to an officer on April 8 this year.

The court heard he was found to have 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit being 35.

Magistrates ordered him to carry out 50 hours unpaid work, plus pay compensation of £100.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 20 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Jail threat for triple assault

Assaulting three people in Ashton and being threatening and abusive has landed Barry Cloran a suspended jail sentence at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to four charges in total - three of assault and one of being threatening and abusive.

All of the offences related to an incident in Ashton on January 17 this year.

Magistrates gave him a 12 weeks jail term, suspended for 12 months, plus ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay a total of £400 compensation.

His address was given as Rembrandt Walk, Oldham.

Three year motoring ban for drug driver

Denton driver Ryan McGrane has been banned from the road for three years by Tameside magistrates for being over the drug drive limit.

The 27-year-old, of Beverley Avenue, pleaded guilty to the charge, plus being in possession of a quantity of cannabis and driving without insurance cover.

The three offences all related to an incident on January 17 this year in Denton when he was stopped on St George’s Gardens in Denton.

Magistrates fined him £300, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge. 

Tameside magistrates also instructed that the cannabis should be forfeited and destroyed.

Fine for being found in possession of cocaine

Karl Warburton, 40, of Mossley Road, Ashton, has been fined £80 by Tameside magistrates for being in possession of a snap bag of cocaine.

He admitted the offence after being found in the town with the class A drug on August 2 this year.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered the drug be confiscated and destroyed.

Given 100 hours to work it out

Denton woman Charlotte Sumner admitted charges of assault and of being threatening and abusive when she appeared at Tameside magistrates.

The 20-year-old, of Edward Street, admitted causing the offences in Stalybridge on July 11 this year.

Magistrates ordered her to carry out 100 hours unpaid work, pay a total of £100 compensation and £85 court costs.

Man had knife outside shop

A 21-year-old found with a Stanley knife outside a shop in Droylsden has been given a suspended jail sentence by Tameside magistrates.

Darren Miller pleaded guilty to the charge, plus admitted a further offence of assault.

The charges related to incidents in the town on April 10 this year.

Tameside magistrates gave him a 12 weeks prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, plus ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £122.

He must also pay £85 court costs.

Magistrates ordered the Stanley knife be confiscated and destroyed.

His address was given as Victoria Street, Bradford, in Manchester.

Drug driver loses driving licence

Van driver Matthew Rogers was over the drug drive limit when he motored through Droylsden, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence which had happened on February 17 this year on Droylsden Road.

Magistrates fined him £360, plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £36 victim surcharge. 

The Manchester man, of Neston Street, was banned from the road for 12 months.

Under curfew for assaults

Kevin Logue pleaded guilty to three charges of assault - including one against a paramedic - plus being violent to secure access to a property, when he appeared before Tameside magistrates.

The 36-year-old, of Harewood Walk, Denton, admitted committing the offences on April 9 this year and being violent to gain entry to a property in Dukinfield.

The court handed him a curfew order meaning he must remain at his address for six weeks between the hours of 7pm and 7am for the duration of the order.

He was also instructed to pay a total of £200 compensation. 

Offender must stay at home

Denton man James Ellis has been given a three months curfew order by Tameside magistrates after being found in public with a kitchen knife.

The 22-year-old, of Worthington Road, pleaded guilty to the offence on Worcester Avenue in Denton.

He was ordered to remain at his address between the hours of 7pm and 7am each night for the duration of the curfew order, plus carry out 100 hours unpaid work.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

Failed to comply with Covid rules

Mark Stelfox, 42, of Bentley Road, Denton, has been fined a total of £100 by Tameside magistrates.

He admitted charges of failing to comply with Covid guidelines and being threatening and abusive on April 12 this year.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Speeding through Tameside at 68mph in 30mph zone

A driver from Whitchurch who motored along a 30mph stretch of Mottram Road in Stalybridge at 68mph has been fined £660 by Tameside magistrates.

Wendy Atherton, 35, of Willeymoor Lane, Tushingham in Cheshire, had denied the offence, but was found guilty by the court in her absence.

She was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge. The offence had happened on November 16 last year, south east of Taylor Street in the town.

£1,600 compensation

Tameside magistrates have ordered Denton man John Barker to pay £1,600 compensation for damaging windows.

The 40-year-old, of Marina Avenue, pleaded guilty to causing the damage at a property in Stockport on March 22 last year.

Costs of breaking orders

Failing to comply with court orders has cost Scott Kearney a £100 bill.

The 20-year-old, of Marler Road, Newton, Hyde, admitted being in breach of the orders when he appeared before Tameside magistrates and was fined £40 plus ordered to pay £60 court costs.

More parents facing fines

Tameside magistrates have fined more parents for failing to ensure their children regularly attend school. Fines of up to £660, plus associated court costs of more than £180, were ordered in some instances.
