Rev David Warner column: A step back in the road to recovery

In his latest column for the Reporter, the Vicar of Mossley, Reverend David Warner, talks about the changing times for us all after the introduction of new lockdown restrictions across the region.

And then it started again... I was away when the news broke of the most recent change in regulations.

Not as bad perhaps as we had feared, or may have to be the case in the future, but certainly a step back - like lots of people we had plans to see friends and family which had to be changed or cancelled. How long it will last is the massive question to which none of us have the answer...

The press has been full of stories discussing what decisions may have to be made in the future - one of those stories suggested that perhaps in order for schools to open, pubs may have to be closed.

Of course, everyone likes to ponder the decisions being made, and most of us are glad that we aren’t the ones that have to make them!

Covid-19 has caused many of us to look again at what we consider to be important in life - when all you can do is stay at home, perhaps DIY and home improvement has become your thing.

Perhaps faced with family and neighbours in need, you’ve made more time in your life to support others.

For all of us, things have changed, and don’t show any real signs of changing back to ‘normal’ and in some ways that feels good, and in others really painful, unsettling and challenging.

August is traditionally quite quiet as schools are closed and many people take holidays, or at least ‘staycations.’ It’s yet more time to take stock of what has been and what may be in the near future, and to try and do that thing which seems most elusive for the moment - planning for the future.

Whatever you’re doing with the weeks ahead, or planning to do, stay safe.
