Properties left without power after Mottram substation fire

Stalybridge Road was closed between 2pm and 4.30pm as a result of the incident.

Around 250 properties were without power for hours on Easter Saturday after a fire at a substation in Mottram caused a power cut in the area.

It’s understood to have happened at around 2pm, with people in the area at the time reporting on social media that they heard a ‘small explosion’.

Stalybridge Road - the diversion for the southbound closure of A6018 Back Moor due to gas works - was closed for around two-and-a-half hours due to the incident.

Several sets of traffic lights were also out of action as a result, leading to heavy traffic in the area including congestion on Hyde Road and Mottram Moor.

Electricity North West engineers worked to restore power to homes and businesses, with all but three being reconnected by 9pm.
