National award for Tameside health and safety team

A Tameside team that worked throughout the Covid pandemic to support services and schools to reduce risk and stay safe has been recognised with a national award.

Tameside Council's health and safety team were named Service Superstars in the Excellence in People Management Awards 2022

The award recognises the team’s valuable role in supporting services and schools manage risk and remain compliant to the ever-changing Covid regulations and guidance over the last two years.

One of the key outcomes of this close working is a new organisation-wide approach to bringing health and safety into projects at the developmental stage, ensuring healthy and safety breaches avoided.

The team has also carried out work on reducing workplace stress and supported voluntary organisations via Action Together.

Tameside Council Head of Pubic Protection Sharon Smith said: “This is fantastic national recognition for a team who have worked so hard to protect the community. It has been a busy and demanding time but they have continued to keep looking at how they can improve and make a difference.”
