Mossley Foodbank makes plea

Mossley Food Bank has made an appeal for extra supplies over the festive period.

Every year Mossley Food Bank provides food hampers to people and families who otherwise would go without over the festive season.

Over the last couple of years this has included toys and presents as well as food.

This year the need has risen drastically and it is expected to rise even more.

The food bank is looking for donations of new toys, toiletries, games etc for children aged 0-16.

The food bank also needs food donations such as tinned vegetables, tinned meats, long life milk, cereals, crackers, jams, biscuits etc.

These will be made up into hampers to give out.

The food bank is also appealing for toiletries, including: toothpaste, soaps, shower gel, shampoo/conditioner, nappies - sizes 5/6/7, baby wipes and sanitary towels.

It would also be grateful for any festive treats such as advent calendars, selection boxes, mince pies, and Christmas puddings.

This year, due to the Covid pandemic and people having to isolate, the food bank also wants to make up and give out care packages to the older, more vulnerable in the community.

Some people this year will be on their own over Christmas and so the food bank wants to give them one of the care packages.

These will be made up of toiletries, hats, scarves, gloves, hand-warmers, food and treats.

They are also hoping to put in pictures that local children have drawn.

Any donations, no matter how big or small, are gratefully received.

The food bank desperately wants to support people and families to make sure no one goes without over Christmas.

It is currently making up between 20 and 30 parcels a week.

Donations can be dropped off at Mossley’s St John’s Church, St George’s Church, the Co-op on Arundel Street or at the food bank at Mossley Youthbase, The Rowans, on Thursdays 9am until noon.

The last date for donating toys/gifts is on Tuesday, December 14. Please leave gifts unwrapped.
