Three people injured after serious collision in Hyde

A 47-year-old man is fighting for his life and an eight-year-old girl has also been taken to hospital after a serious collision on Matley Lane in Hyde on Monday morning (May 4).

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that an Audi A3 and Vauxhall Astra were involved in a head-on collision at around 8.40am. 

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the girl had minor injuries. 

No arrests have been made so far. 

An investigation is underway and police are appealing for witnesses with information to come forward. 

PC Karl Horner, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This incident sadly resulted in a man and child being injured. Our thoughts are with their families at this time.

"An investigation is underway and I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information or dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident or shortly before to get in touch."

North West Ambulance Service earlier confirmed the man is in a critical condition with multiple injuries and the girl had chest and head injuries.

A woman who had suffered minor injuries was also discharged at the scene. 

A spokesperson told the Reporter: "We were called at 08:38am to reports of a road traffic collision on Matley Lane.

"We attended with four land ambulances, one rapid response vehicle, one advanced paramedic, one operational commander and an air ambulance.

"Three patients were involved. One adult male in a critical condition with multiple injuries has been taken to hospital. An eight-year-old female with chest and head injuries has been taken to hospital. One adult female with minor injuries was discharged at the scene."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision at 8:38am on Monday, May 4.

"Two fire engines from Stalybridge and Hyde and the technical response unit with support from Ashton attended the incident on Matley Lane, Hyde.

"Crews administrated first aid on one casualty, with two further casualties were conveyed to hospital with NWAS. We were in attendance for two hours and 10 minutes." 

The Rising Moon pub on Matley Lane posted images of a heavy emergency response, including multiple ambulances, the air ambulance and fire engines. 

It said in an earlier Facebook post: "Woke up to Air Ambulance on the car park this morning, there has been a terrible crash on Matley Lane.

"Do not know what’s happened exactly, but we are praying the people involved are okay. All our emergency services are at the scene. Praying and hoping." 

The pub also posted: "We've helped police with our CCTV. Our emergency services are amazing where would we be without them. So very grateful. Our thoughts are with the families and people involved in the accident this morning." 

As of 4.30pm, Talbot Road is closed in both directions due to the incident between Matley Lane and Victoria Street. The road has been closed since 8am and is affecting traffic between Matley and Hyde. 

Transport for Greater Manchester advise people to consider using the M67 if travelling between Newton and Matley.
