Man charged with series of robberies including in Tameside

A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of robberies - including in Tameside.

Jose Da Silva, of Brightman Street in Manchester, as been charged with seven counts of business robbery, one count of Section 18 wounding with intent and one count of possession of a bladed article.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Stockport Magistrates' Court on Friday (18 December).

The robberies took place across Tameside and Manchester between Tuesday 1 December and Wednesday 16 December.

During one of the robberies, a female staff member at Greggs in Droylsden was stabbed twice at the bakery on Queens Walk at around 5pm on Thursday 3 December.

She was taken to hospital with stab wounds to her thigh and hip but has since been discharged.

One week later, at 5pm on Thursday 10 December, police were called to an armed robbery at the Subway on Wellington Road in Ashton, where a member of staff was grabbed by the throat before the offender took money out of the till before fleeing. No one was injured in that robbery, but staff were left understandably shaken.
