Man arrested over M60 crash is bailed

A man arrested following a fatal collision on the M60 on Friday (February 28) which killed an eight-year-old boy has been bailed.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance service, raced to the scene at around 2pm following reports of a two-vehicle RTC on the M60 between Denton and Ashton.

A silver BMW was in collision with a stationary highways maintenance vehicle which was on the hard shoulder on the clockwise carriageway close to Junction 23 in Audenshaw.

Two boys, aged six and eight, travelling in the BMW were taken to hospital.

Sadly, the eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead a short time later.

The six-year-old boy has since been released from hospital.

A woman in the stationary highways maintenance vehicle received minor injuries.

The driver of the BMW, who was a man in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving/drug driving and driving without insurance.

He has since been bailed pending further enquiries, Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Monday morning (2 March).

Sergeant Matthew Picton, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We continue to investigate the circumstances of this dreadful incident, in which a young boy very sadly lost his life.

“We are pleased that the other child’s injuries were not as serious as first thought and he has been released from hospital.

“Our thoughts remain with those affected by this terrible incident.

“We continue to appeal for information following the collision and we’d ask that anyone with information get in touch with our officers.”
