A 72-year-old man who died after being hit by a lorry in Ashton last week has been named as his family pay tribute to him.

In a statement released by Greater Manchester Police, the family of Kenneth Hartley have paid tribute to 'a loving father to Andrew and Rebecca and grandfather to Stephen, Emma and Caden'.

They added: "He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Rest in peace Ken."

Emergency services rushed to Manchester Road just before 2pm last Thursday afternoon (14 October) to a report of a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Kenneth - the pedestrian - was pronounced dead at the scene.

GMP say the lorry failed to stop but was later located and the driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

The driver of another lorry - not involved in the collision - remained at the scene.

Police say enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Kenneth's family have asked for privacy at this time.

PS Phil Shaw, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Kenneth's family and friends.

"This collision happened in the middle of the day and I am hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who can assist us with our enquiries.

"If you were in the area at the time and witnessed this collision or have any dashcam footage, please do not hesitate to contact police."
