Local musician finds a sound 'true to his heart'

Local musician Joell Jordi is a self-taught singer and songwriter who is just about to release his latest single.

The 26-year-old's newest track ‘Compromise’ is a sound that reflects the ‘90s Britpop era and modern indie, using synthesizers to give his music a cosmic twist.

Dean Glover helped to produce the unique sound at the VIBE recording studio in Manchester.

Joell (pictured) is born and bred in the borough, beginning his career in Manchester as a frontman for a band.

From picking up his first guitar at 15, to releasing an EP, Joell said: “It all started in high school when I was listening to various Indie/Rock and Roll artists and bands and I thought to myself that’s something I’d love to be able to do.

“I spent a year or so in a band, created a couple of songs, made my first music video and got on a couple of radio stations. Then it just fell apart when everyone went to university and did their own thing.

"From then on, until now, I have been writing my own music, getting more creative, exploring new instruments, and this is how I’ve come to release my very own acoustic EP.

“This song is my best yet, it was written and crafted while in lockdown, and I couldn’t be happier with it, with influences from the ‘90s to cosmic synthesizers it is gelling together really nicely, and I believe I have found the sound which is true to my heart.”

‘Compromise’ is set for release on January 11, 2021.
