Join a community litter pick to help clean up the Tame Valley

Volunteers who carried out litter picks around the Tame Valley back in February.

The Friends of the Tame Valley have organised a community litter pick which is taking place on Sunday (20 June).

The group will be carrying out the activity in conjunction with Denton North East councillors, including the group's very own chair Denise Ward.

They will be meeting at 11am at the Broomfields entrance to Jet Amber Fields and 12.15pm at the Fairlea entrance to Whittles Meadow.

Volunteers are welcome to join.

Litter pickers and bin bags will be provided.

Anyone who is unable to attend this weekend but would like to do some litter picking in the Tame Valley in their own time can email Denton MP Andrew Gwynne at ajgwynne@sky.com if they wish to borrow some equipment when they need it.

Who are the Friends of Tame Valley?

The Friends of Tame Valley was established in February this year by determined residents, MP Andrew Gwynne and local councillors to help transform the section of the river valley between Shepley Road, Audenshaw and Mill Lane Haughton Green. The area encompasses the entirety of Jet Amber Fields and a part of the Peak Forest Canal too.

The group has over 150 members now, many of whom are actively working to clean and improve the valley. More than 370 large bin bags of rubbish have been removed from the Tame Valley since the group was formed.

It also has an ambition to upgrade the footpaths, install bins and information boards across the site, as well as continuing to clean-up the countryside and riverbank to make the are more enjoyable to use.

The group has already been able to secure thousands of pounds in grant funding to help achieve this.
