Hyde nursery helping those less fortunate this Christmas

A nursery in Hyde has been helping to make sure that vulnerable and homeless people across the country have gifts this Christmas. 

ABC Day Nursery on Onward Street has been a drop-off point for the Manchester Street Angels Christmas shoebox appeal again this year. 

They have collected more than 30 boxes from kind families that attend the early years setting as well as members of the public. 

Nursery Manager Amy Wood said: "We have been a collection point for this wonderful appeal for over four years now. It's lovely to see new faces donating boxes and items for the appeal, everyone has been so generous.

"We’ve all had a tough year but we still have a lot to be grateful for, and it's really heartwarming to see the kindness of the community coming together." 

The charity Manchester Street Angels asked for people to fill up a shoebox with both essential items and festive treats so that the thousands of vulnerable and homeless people all over the UK have something to open on Christmas Day.

Items such as essential toiletries, warm clothing and food with a long shelf life were recommended, as well as a Christmas card with a message to the person receiving the gift. The shoebox appeal is a great way to give something back to those who may be less fortunate during the Christmas period.
