Help to quit smoking available at Ashton Market

People who would like help to stop smoking are being encouraged to come to Ashton Market on Sunday where teams will be on hand to offer support and advice.

Advisers on behalf of Make Smoking History team, who are timing their visit with the funfair on the market to reach as many visitors as possible, will be available from 11am to 1pm to advertise the help available.

Tameside residents will be eligible to six months free, premium access to the Greater Manchester Smoke Free app including the opportunity to receive a free four-week starter vape kit posted straight to their door, to help them on their quitting journey.

The app includes premium support for Greater Manchester residents only, which has been shown to double smokers’ chances of getting to the critical three-month milestone, including 24/7 access to stop smoking advisors, and tools highlighting progress, money saved and the opportunity to share their how far they’ve come with others on the quitting journey.

Tameside Council executive member for population health and wellbeing, Cllr Eleanor Wills, said: “We want to reach as many residents as possible with support to help them stop smoking. The street team's presence, alongside all of our other support services available in the borough, are yet another way of making it easier for our residents to get help and support to quit.

“It is important that everyone who wishes to begin their journey to stopping smoking is able to get support and if you can’t make it to Ashton Market on this specific day, please get in touch with our brilliant local service, Be Well Tameside, who can support you with quitting smoking.”
