Funding boost to make low-income Tameside homes warmer

Funding is being made available to make Tameside homes warmer and energy bills cheaper this winter.

Residents across the borough who meet the eligibility criteria below are encouraged to apply, as part of Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme – in partnership with E.ON.

The scheme aims to help low-income homes keep warm by improving the energy efficiency rating and reducing energy bills.

For homeowners, funding is available for up to £10,000 worth of improvements and, for landlords, two thirds of the cost up to £5,000.

Household income must be less than £30,000 and the energy efficiency rating of the house must be E, F or G.

Residents can find out the energy efficiency rating of their homes by looking on the EPC Register, entering their postcode and selecting their house from the list.

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with E.ON, and they will help by sourcing the installers to complete the work.

A number of energy efficiency measures are made available such as:

  • External wall insulation
  • Air Source Heat Pumps (low carbon heating)
  • Door improvements
  • Smart heating controls
  • Cavity insulation
  • Loft insulation

All work must be completed before 31 March 2021, and application process will run until then.

Councillor Allison Gwynne, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Community Safety and Environment, said: “The news that this funding has been made available is brilliant. A warm home is so important, and the green homes funding is a hugely positive step towards making sure Tameside homes are warm, comfortable and energy efficient this winter.

“I urge all residents to check their availability and take advantage of this scheme if they can – the E.ON staff are friendly and will be happy to help; and they even organise local contractors for you to complete the work!”
