Friends of Tame Valley scoop funding boost

The Friends of the Tame Valley are celebrating the awarding of £2,000 from the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund.

The award is to go towards the maintenance of Lovers’ Alley between the River Tame and the Peak Forest Canal in Dunkirk Wood.

The funding was awarded via the office of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Sir Warren Smith, KCVO, KStJ, JP.

The Friends of the Tame Valley are a group of residents caring for the section of the Tame Valley from Shepley Wood, Audenshaw, through Jet Amber Fields in Denton and Hyde and running into Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows to Mill Lane, Haughton Green.

Councillor Denise Ward, Chair of the Friends of the Tame Valley said: “We are all delighted that this funding has been awarded and really appreciate the support that the Duchy has given to our project.”

Connor Martin, Vice Chair of the Friends of the Tame Valley said: “This funding will make a huge difference for the group and allow us to keep Lovers’ Alley, a much-loved landmark in the Tame Valley, in the condition it should be in.”

Andrew Gwynne, Secretary of the Friends of the Tame Valley said: “This is more fantastic news for the Friends of the Tame Valley. We’ve got off to a fantastic start and are always looking for new people to get involved.”
