Erin completes 10k challenge for MS Society

10-year-old Erin Scott has collected hundreds of pounds after taking part in a 10k walk for the MS Society.

The Buckton Vale Primary School pupil has impressed her teachers and family after stepping up to raise fantastic funds for charity.

Erin’s mum, Emma Scott, was first diagnosed with MS (Multiple sclerosis) in 2005, meaning it is something that’s always been prominent in Erin’s life.

Multiple sclerosis is a neurological condition affecting the nerves of the body. Everyone’s MS is different, yet once diagnosed, it stays with you for life. Treatments and specialists can help to manage the condition, and it’s charities like MS Society that allow this to happen.

“Erin was looking for something to do that would be a nice charitable cause. She asked me if there was anything that we could do for MS, so I looked into it and the MS Society do this walk every year.

“She asked if she could do it and so we all decided that we would do it together. There was a 5k option, but she was adamant on doing the 10k,” Emma said.

So together, Emma, Erin and her dad headed to complete their 10k challenge. An event for all the family, they even managed to take their dog.

“It was so lovely, we had nice weather and it was a really nice atmosphere. It’s not a huge walk but there was probably a hundred or so people there.

“Everyone was really encouraging and supportive of each other. Everyone goes at their own pace and there’s a lot of people who have MS that take part, wheelchair users can also go along, so it’s all about completing it,” Emma says.

As a smaller charity, the MS Society is often overlooked, so events like this are vital in spreading their message and raising funds.

Emma says she has been very lucky to not need much in the way of charity support, but she does love the use of the online forum to chat to others who may be experiencing her symptoms.

At just 10-years-old, Erin has already proven to have a huge heart, helping the lives of so many people.
