Double birthday delight for mum and daughter

A very special resident at a Dukinfield care home has celebrated her 101st birthday - with the best gift of all a visit from her daughter.

Kathleen Meek (pictured) is a resident at HC-One’s The Beeches care home in the town and as well as being inundated with flowers and cards, received the very special visit in the most difficult of times too.

Kathleen turned 101 on November 26, and shares her birthday with her daughter, Pamela Broadbent, who visited the home to see her mum through the window.

In the morning of her birthday, Kathleen was visited by Pamela who brought some presents and cards for her.

Kathleen and Pamela shared a lovely moment together, opening presents and reading cards before having to say goodbye.

“I had a lovely birthday, I am so glad I could see Pamela on her birthday as well,” said Kathleen.

Later in the day, residents at the home enjoyed DVD entertainment from regular singer Deborah who entertained the residents with songs from the ‘50s.

Everyone enjoyed a good sing song and dance with colleagues, all socially distanced and the afternoon was finished with a lovely chocolate cake and some wine and Bailey’s.

Sade Smith, The Beeches wellbeing coordinator, said: “Kathleen had a lovely birthday and I am just glad we could celebrate such a special occasion just a little differently this year.”
