Denton McDonald's drive-thru to be expanded to avoid queuing traffic

The McDonald’s drive-thru at Crown Point North Shopping Park in Denton will expand and be reconfigured following plan approval.

The latest application submitted to Tameside Council would not see a massive expansion, but the drive-thru system would see the largest change to try and prevent queueing onto Worthington Way. A total of eight car parking spaces would be lost as the drive-thru is altered and the pay and collect booths are removed, being replaced by larger windows.

The idea behind the change is to deal with increased demand and cater for more cars in the drive-thru system.

An additional door at the front of the restaurant for McDelivery service has been included in the proposal.

Planning papers read: “The Local Highway Authority raised initial concerns regarding the circulation movements for vehicles within the site and Worthington Way during peak times, due to queue build up from the restaurant affecting the existing traffic of McDonalds car park and the loss of existing car parking spaces.

“However, the applicant has produced a transport assessment to address these concerns. The assessment plan shows sufficient parking spaces within the leisure park to accommodate additional vehicles due to the proposed development, along with the required proposals to promote active travel for staff to mitigate for the loss of the existing parking spaces.”
