Daisy Dewsnap: Preparing to leave school and move on

Daisy Dewsnap.

Our regular columnist, secondary school student Daisy Dewsnap, looks forward to her last month as... a secondary school student!

This past year has been so strange for all of us and a time period that we could never have even thought we would experience.

With the end of my high school years now in sight, things seem to have become much more real and I can’t quite believe that I’ll be leaving Year 11 at the end of May.

Since I started secondary school in September 2016, I have known that one day I would leave and move onto the next stage of my life. That was inevitable. Although it seemed so far away and something I didn’t really have to think about.

But now, with only a matter of weeks left, reality has finally hit me and I can’t quite believe that I’m going to have left school this time next month.

I already know that I’m going to miss so many aspects of it. I’m no longer going to see everyone I’ve been seeing every single day for the past five years (prior to Covid’s arrival) and that will feel so strange.

The whole routine of it, the people, the building, the classes... everything will change. And it’s a strange feeling of realisation that hits you when you really think about it.

Part of me doesn’t want to leave and my heart aches thinking about how everything will be so different and I’ll be moving on with my life. But another part of me knows that this is all part of my journey in life and there will be so many exciting, new opportunities coming my way once I progress onto the next stage of my life!

I also wanted to include a quick reminder within this article to any younger years at secondary school.

Please just enjoy it. Because even if you think you don’t like school, you will most definitely miss so many parts of it and those last few weeks before you leave will be filled with nostalgia and sentimentality.
