Cycle challenge in memory of Martyn Hett

PEDAL POWER: Paul and Dan.

Father and son Paul and Dan Hett are undertaking a 22-mile cycle challenge in memory of their son and brother Martyn.

The distance is highly significant as it reflects the number who were victims of the 2017 Arena bombing and the date, May 22, on which it occurred.

The ride takes place on August 25 and the duo will use the Middlewood Way route - cycling from Marple to Macclesfield and back.

Paul, who turned 60 not too long ago, has never ridden as far in one go before.

“The ride is 22 miles and we will be thinking of the 22,” said Paul.

The pair have set up a Just Giving page to help them raise funds for children’s cancer support charity, Kidscan, an organisation that Martyn had undertaken promotional work for in his marketing job.

So far they have already raised more than £1,000, but hope to raise much more before settling off on their trek.

The total they achieve will be presented to the charity at Hyde Mela, in Hyde Park on August 28, when Paul will also be presenting awards for the Martyn Hett Memorial Trophy.

If you would like to add to the total raised you can make a donation via the Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Paul-Hett
