College student works with award-winning screenwriter and director

A first-year media production student at Clarendon Sixth Form College has been working with multi award-winning screenwriter and director Jim Cartwright.

Joshua Whitbread - a former Audenshaw School pupil - expressed his interest when the work experience opportunity was advertised via Google Classroom.

From there, Josh had the opportunity to edit for Jim, who owns The Jim Cartwright Company.

Josh edited the clips from home and college via the professional editing software Adobe Premiere Pro.

The experience was fulfilling overall, with Josh also working with green screens on site.

In future, Josh (pictured below) would like a job that involves editing films.

He said: “I really enjoy the creative freedom we’re given on our course. Overall, the experience was great. I enjoyed working with the green screen the most.”

Jim Cartwright, owner of Cartwright Drama Studio, said: “At your recommendation, Joshua Whitbread took on the task of editing together footage from a TV project we have been creating. He was not only extremely skilled but quick, efficient and very creative. All involved were more than highly pleased with the final result of his work.”

Jim Cartwright is an international playwright, screenwriter and director. Awards for his play, Road, include The George Devine Awards, The Plays and Players Award, Drama Magazine Award and the Samuel Beckett Award.

Jim has worked with various famous actors and directors such as Sam Mendes, Danny Boyle, Christopher Eccleston and Brenda Blethyn to name a few.
