Broadbottom actress Millie Gibson reportedly leaving 'Doctor Who' after one season

Broadbottom's Millie Gibson will not be returning in the fifteenth instalment of Doctor Who.

The 19-year-old, who recently made her debut as Ruby Sunday during last year's Christmas Special, will only appear in eight episodes of the hit sci-fi series, which is expected to air in May.

Millie, a former student at the Blue Coat School in Oldham, will be replaced by Varada Seethu, best known for playing DS Mishal Ali in the BBC apocalyptic TV series Hard Sun and more recently appearing in the first season of Star Wards: Andor.

Insiders revealed that, in the coming weeks, Millie will return to "tie up loose ends" and will only make a handful of appearances in next year's season.

The decision was reportedly made by showrunner Russell T Davies last year after filming on her initial run of episodes ended.

Millie was snapped up by Manchester Media City talent agency Scream Management after they spotted her in a drama class at Oldham Theatre Workshop seven years ago.

It wasn’t long after that she secured her first role as Indira on CBBC show Jamie Johnson, before then appearing as Mia in the 2017 BBC series 'Love, Lies, Records' and in ITV drama 'Butterfly' alongside Anna Friel and Emmett J Scanlan.

She then stepped out onto the cobbles in 2019, making her first appearance on Coronation Street as the character of Kelly, daughter of loan shark Rick Neelan.
