Audenshaw family to embark on run for stroke charity

An Audenshaw family will step up to take part in their first ever Resolution Run in aid of the Stroke Association on Sunday, March 8, in Heaton Park.

The Woodcock family were inspired to sign up after dad Harry suffered a stroke in 2016, aged 66.

Now, Harry will take on the 5km Resolution Run, alongside his wife Marilyn, daughter Lucy and son Oliver.

Lucy said: “After his stroke, my dad was in hospital for three months. He has come such a long way since then and is doing really well due to his determination to get fighting fit again.

“Now he is back driving, playing golf and is even taking part in this run along with us all. We are all very proud of him!

“Family, friends, the Stroke Association and the NHS have all helped dad with his road to recovery, and as a result we wanted to do something as a family.

“We’re proud to join the resolution and help raise as much money as we can to rebuild lives after stroke, and give thanks.

“We did some training at the weekend when we went to Wales for a family holiday, and managed to get out when Storm Dennis calmed down! So far we have raised over £200 and hope to increase this amount before the event as much as possible.”

Liv Simpson, Regional Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: "Stroke recovery is a marathon not a sprint. “Life after stroke is different for us all, but there is one way we can stand together.

"The Resolution Run is the perfect opportunity to mark a milestone in your own stroke recovery, show your support for a friend or family member affected by stroke, or in memory of a loved one. You can run, walk or cheer and choose your distance to suit you. It’s more than a run, it’s a resolution to help rebuild lives after stroke."

The entry fee is just £15 and runners can choose their distance To join the resolution, visit www.resolutionrun.org.uk, email resolution@stroke.org.uk or call 0300 330 0740.
