Ashton woman's incredible journey to lose eight stone

An inspirational woman from Ashton is looking towards a happier and healthier future after losing an incredible eight stone!

Accounts assistant Amanda Gorley, 47, felt she had become weary of her size dictating her life so decided to join WW (formerly Weight Watchers).

"I always say I'd reached my fat limit," Amanda said. "I was sick of my size being the first thing I thought about when I woke up and how much it depressed me.

"Having to ask for a seatbelt extender on a plane was pretty much a low point too and I was determined that would not happen again. Plus I wanted to be able to shop in normal clothes shops, not just buy because it fits!"

Concerned about her chances of success in losing the weight due to the challenge of temptations and her hearty appetite, Amanda decided to join WW with her friend and colleague Danielle Bailey to help boost her motivation.

After a warm welcome from her WW coach Pauline Brock and introduction to the WW Plan, Amanda was soon enjoying her food choices and the tools on offer.

"I find WW so user friendly, easy to follow and doesn’t limit the types of food I can have, plus the groups are so friendly and welcoming," she said.

"Nothing is off the menu, so I don’t feel I’m being denied anything and just eating better meant straight away I felt more energised.”

As her weight loss continued and her clothes became baggier, her drive to continue with her commitment grew.

With habits changing to healthier ones, Amanda also found the confidence to use the plan to still enjoy her treats.

"Eating out is one of my favourite things to do," she said. "I still do it but try and make some better choices or know I can pull back on pints as the week goes on. Because WW is very flexible and enables me to live while eating healthy, I’m much more aware of making a healthy choice now, without feeling I’m being denied anything."

Dropping from 19st 11lbs to 11st 10lbs, Amanda says she's feeling fantastic now and has thanked her coach Pauline for her support during the journey.

"Pauline is so positive and encouraging," she said. "She's always there to listen if it’s been a bad week and reminding us of the journey we’ve already been on.

"I can honestly say I’ve not really had too many difficulties. I’ve just tried to keep a positive mindset and know the end result would make me a happier more confident person.

"I am just so much more aware of what I put in my body and question more if I actually want the treat. My energy levels are so much higher and my confidence is endless... people notice I smile more and I actually like myself more now".

Pauline said: "What an absolute honour and privilege it has been to watch Amanda’s wellness journey unfold, embracing WW's four-pillar approach has given her the success she deserved. I am so proud of her.”
