Ashton Sixth Form student's prestigious portrait success

Ashton Sixth Form College student Sophie Whalley has been named a winner in The Horsfall's 2020 Art Competition.

Sophie studies Fine Art, Graphic Design and Business at the college. She is currently in her second year and previously studied at Longdendale High School.

Sophie submitted her portrait to the competition which opened for submissions during lockdown.

While the brief of the competition was broad, it focused on celebrating people and building back a sense of community.

Students were also able to use any medium of their own choosing.

Sophie’s incredible portrait was chosen as one of only six winners and she received £100 worth of Fred Aldous vouchers.

The Horsfall is a gallery and space for creative engagement which is part of young people’s mental health charity 42nd Street.
