'A rather expensive takeaway' for one disqualified Denton driver

Picking up a takeaway meal proved to be an expensive experience for one disqualified driver from Denton.

Craig Atkinson was driving out of the car park at the McDonald's restaurant at Crownpoint North Retail Park on 23 December last year when he was spotted by police.

Unfortunately for the 33-year-old, he was seen by the same officer who had stopped him in May 2020, which resulted in him being banned from the road.

Atkinson, of Walton Way in Denton, pleaded guilty at Tameside Magistrates' Court to driving whilst disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

He is now banned from the road for a further nine months and must pay fines and costs totalling £180, while he also received a Community Order for 12 months and a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

"This was a rather expensive takeaway shall we say," said GMP Tameside South and West in a Facebook post.
