Weekend Review: Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League

Last weekend marked the 13th week of action in the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League.

Readers Division One

The top two clashed with leaders Woodley coming out on top after dismissing Dove Holes for 79 and racing to a seven wicket win.  It extended Woodley’s lead at the top to 31 points and they will be looking to make it a double after capturing the Bissenden Cup last weekend.

Division Two

Whaley Bridge easily beat Stalybridge by nine wickets and this, coupled with Pott Shrigley’s narrow defeat at the hands of Hollingworth in a low scoring game,  leaves them with a 51 point lead at the top.  With 5 games left they are now in pole position for the title. Chris Sims of Charlesworth hit an outstanding 146 in their big win at Birch Vale.

Division Three

Newton stayed at the top after a six wicket win at Chapel.  Stalybridge restricted Broadbottom to 113-8 but were then routed for 20, a result which narrows the gap between the two in a fight against relegation.

Leaders Tintwistle stumbled as they failed to chase Hollingworth moderate 103ao, falling 30 short of the win.
