Tigers pounce on Gladiators

BetVictor Premier Division: Hyde United 3-1 Matlock Town

Hyde ran out deserved winners over struggling Matlock Town after a 3-1 win at Ewen Fields. Once the home side could overcome the physical encounter the opposition posed, it was a fairly comfortable victory.

The visitors were arguably the better side for the opening 15 minutes and had a couple of opportunities through the lively Oyibo but he was stopped by Hyde keeper Allinson who was there to force shots wide of the post.

Hyde went ahead on 22 minutes when Lane found room on the edge of the area to unleash a powerful shot that dipped under Trennery and into the back of the net.

For the remainder of the first half, it was scrappy with regular stoppages for fouls, injuries and questionable booking from the referee.

In the second half, it was thought once Hyde doubled their lead it was going to be hard for the visitors to get anything out of the game. Matlock had Spencer Harris to thank as he got his head on the end of a Sharp cross but unfortunately for him it was in the wrong net and flew past a helpless Trennery.

Luke Dean made matters worse for Matlock as he pulled Pratt down as he ran through on goal, an easy decision by the referee to produce the red card.

Ndiaye wrapped up the 3 points for Hyde as he slotted in from close range and only a late Chilaka consolation could prevent the tigers from the perfect victory.
