Rampant Radcliffe dump Droylsden out of League Cup

Integro League Cup first round: Radcliffe 4-0 Droylsden

The Bloods were blown away by the first display of their opponents after being reduced to ten men after just a minute of play.

Centre half Andy Langford was controversially shown a straight red after the referee adjudged him to have handled the ball on the line and with Tyrese Sinclair scoring from the spot, Droylsden found themselves a goal down after three minutes.

Nine minutes later, Radcliffe doubled their lead, Brown shot from the edge of the area, deflected off Domaine Rouse’s head, giving Thompson no chance.

Walshe had the first chance for Droylsden, blazing over the bar from distance on the quarter hour mark while Dom Smith did well on the right but saw his effort deflected for a corner.

Radcliffe got a third on twenty eight minutes, a mistake at the back letting in Mitchley who had a simple tap in and the striker scored a second three minutes later, converting Williams cross at the near post.

The home team could easily have had more before the break, Mitchley somehow failing to convert at the far post with the goal at his mercy and right on the stroke of half time Billington, with the goal gaping sliced over.

It was a different story second half as Bloods substitutes, Brewster, Frost and Murray bought them back into the game but not before an excellent save from Thompson denied Crowthers.

Rigby, playing in a winger role caused problems down the left, beating two players and setting up Caddick who shot wide.

With four minutes left on the clock, Radcliffe substitute Rokka saw his effort come back off the post, his second attempt hitting the side netting.
