At The Project Solar Stadium on Saturday Hyde extended their unbeaten run to 14 games with a comfortable victory in the end over Workington in The Northern Premier League.
After just five minutes The Tigers showed the visitors why they’re on the run they are, as a good cross by Jack Redshaw from the left was met by Lewis Alessandra who converted and seemingly put Hyde a goal up early on. However the referee’s assistant halted the celebrations as he deemed Alessandra had creeped just offside.
Midway into the first half Workington had a golden opportunity as Aran Fitzpatrick found Steven Rigg, his shot was cleared off the line and the follow up from Greg McCarragher was saved well by Jordan Eastham to deny Workington an opener.
As Workington grew into the game and started to pile the pressure on they created two opportunities in quick succession. The first with Sam Heatherington as he found himself one on one with Eastham who once again pulled Hyde out of the mud and made sure the game stayed goalless. The second opportunity was the best of the game for either side as Rigg found himself a yard out with an open net but somehow he took too long over the ball and Hyde managed to clear.
Seemingly stunned by the howler of the miss at the other end, Workington switched off and let Alessandra skip past three of their defenders and then brilliantly slot the ball under Jamie Atkinson to put The Tigers a goal up just three minutes before the break.
Looking shell shocked again the visitors left a gaping hole in the centre of their defence that Callum Spooner took advantage of with a weighted ball through to Matty Fearnley who unselfishly squared to Redshaw at the back post who couldn’t miss.
At the midway point Hyde were probably slightly fortunate to have the lead as Workington had missed some very good chances but The Tigers rode their luck well and went in two up.
Just after the restart Alessandra found himself through from a Redshaw pass but he fired his shot wide of Atkinson’s near post.
A quiet second half followed as Hyde just showed their quality in the way they kept the ball and made Workington chase which showed towards the final ten minutes as the visitors looked tired in the closing stages.
