Curzon Ashton moved into the play-off places once again on Tuesday after a 2-0 win away to Scarborough Athletic.

The Nash started the game brightly, going close to scoring on 18 minutes when Devon Matthews’ knockdown found Stefan Mols at the front post, but the Spaniard could only steer his effort wide of the upright.

Visitors Curzon then took the lead just before the half-hour mark when Adam Barton’s ball in found Craig Mahon, who took the ball down brilliantly and finished with aplomb.

Mahon then came close to doubling his tally for the evening moments later when his long-range effort cannoned back out off the crossbar.

The player-manager was then involved again just before half-time, with his strike from just outside the box forcing a fine save from Ryan Whitley.

After a poor first half, hosts Scarborough began to grow into the game in the second, creating a number of opportunities.

The best of these fell to Kieran Weledji, who had a guilt-edged chance to level the scoring with just ten minutes to go, but the defender was unable to direct his close-range header on target.

Minutes later, the home side were made to pay for their miss, as Adam Barton rifled the ball into the corner to put the game beyond any reasonable doubt.

The win lifts Curzon up to seventh in the table, ahead of their home match this weekend against Spennymoor Town.
