Man charged with stabbing in Werneth

A 52-year-old man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of a man in his 20s in the Werneth area of Oldham. 

Ian Lawson, of Audax Walk, Manchester, has been charged with one count of attempted section 18 assault with intent to wound and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody to appear Tameside Magistrates' Court on Thursday (21 October). 

Greater Manchester Police were called at around 5.10pm on Tuesday (19 October) to a report of a stabbing on Oxford Street.

Emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.

Police say they believe it to be an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing.
