Oldham residents are being encouraged to lace up their boots and take part in Dr Kershaw’s Virtual Hospice Walk.

Health care assistants at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice have already been fundraising to support patients who are cared for in their own homes.

Marie Taylor, Jane Gartside, Stella Brown, Steph Monaghan, Diane Atkins, Leanne Ward and Nicola Ingham clocked up 6 miles in a sponsored walk through Oldham and Rochdale.

The team started their journey at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and ended at Springhill Hospice, carrying donation buckets that grew heavier as the miles wore on.

Now the public are being asked to get involved this month. The Virtual Hospice Walk is a chance for people to walk a route of 5km or more and raise money for a good cause. Those that take part can choose the distance, day and route they’d prefer.

Registration for the Virtual Hospice Walk is £8 per person and is family and dog friendly.

To recognise the achievement of fundraisers, Dr Kershaw's is gifting a sponsor form, t-shirt, temporary tattoo, individual number and a medal.

Marie Taylor from the Hospice’s Caring Hands team added: “The walk was fabulous; we had such a good time! Cars and vans were pipping their horns at us and were stopping to put money in our buckets.

“People were coming up to us donating and we had so many people telling us that their relatives had been cared for by us, and how grateful they were. Thanks to those who have also signed up for the walk, if you are still considering it, it’s not too late, please do sign up and help to support more patients from our community.”
