Huge improvements to the bottom of Highlands Road in Royton North are now complete.
Local councillor Clint Phythian successfully bid to Oldham Council's Local Improvement Fund to get potholes filled in and the road surface evened out.
The road is used by children attending St Paul’s School, as well as local residents, but is unadopted so not routinely maintained by Oldham Council.
The LIF programme pays for small scale improvements in local areas and this means it is now safer for children to get to school.
Councillor Phythian said: "I put the bid together after complaints from parents, St Paul’s School and residents about this section of the road. I called on residents at the weekend to let them know the work is being done and everyone was very pleased.
"I am happy that the Council’s money is being used to good effect on a scheme asked for by residents and the local school."
He added: "We have only been able to get this done because Labour set up the Local Improvement Fund to support local communities and I think it is important to be able to help residents who ask for small scale improvements to their streets and local area."
