Four before the courts for littering and failing to pay fines.

Four people have been before the courts after being caught littering in Oldham.

Kieran Hilditch, 21, of Hollins Road, Hollinwood, was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for littering after waste was found in an alley near his home.

He failed to pay the notice and, as a result, found himself before the courts. He pleaded guilty and was fined £40 with £130 costs.

Neil Eaves, 36, of Esther Street, Greenacres was also issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for a similar offence and, again, failed to pay. He failed to attend court and was found guilty in his absence and fined £220 with £250 costs

Angela Ciulin, 45, of Werneth Crescent, Werneth, was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for littering behind nearby Grange Avenue. She failed to pay the Fixed Penalty Notice and also failed to attend court. She was found guilty in her absence and fined £220 with £381 costs.

Finally, Ismail Cailin of Mansfield Road, Derker, was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice after discarding a cigarette end from his vehicle. He too failed to pay the Fixed Penalty Notice and also failed to attend court. He was found guilty in his absence and fined £220 with £250 costs.

Cllr Ateeque Ur-Rehman, Oldham Council cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “Littering blights our streets, creates smells, attracts vermin and generally lets our community down and we won’t stand for it.

“These prosecutions are the latest in our continuing attempts to send a clear message – it won’t be tolerated.”

All the offenders were also ordered to pay a £30 surcharge which goes towards supporting victims of crime. They must pay the totals within 28 days.

All prosecutions took place on May 22.
