Fearless fundraiser from Oldham receives Points of Lights award

Steve Hill, MBE, from Oldham, is a deputy headteacher who has been bestowed with the prestigious Points of Lights Award in recognition of his extraordinary efforts. Steve takes on extreme challenges around the world to raise money to support local and international projects in Uganda and inspire his pupils.

Known for his unwavering dedication to fundraising, Steve has consistently gone above and beyond to support local and international projects in Uganda.

Over the years, Steve has embarked on daring challenges, raising over £200,000 for various charitable causes. His endeavours include scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, traversing 200 miles across the Sahara Desert, and conquering multiple marathons, including the gruelling Mount Everest and North Pole Marathons. Not content with conventional feats, Steve has also tackled Ultra Marathons in the Amazon jungle and the Arctic wilderness. Recently, he completed a remarkable feat of running 14 consecutive marathons across Costa Rica and Tajikistan.

In addition to his globetrotting adventures, Steve established his charitable organisation, the 'Team Hill Charitable Trust', in 2019. Through this initiative, he channels his fundraising efforts towards supporting various projects and causes within his local community. Steve organises gift bag appeals for young carers in Oldham to procure essential equipment for children with disabilities. He also dedicates his time to enhancing the environment at the local hospital's children’s outpatient department.

Having participated in the Uganda marathon on five occasions, Steve has cultivated strong ties within the Ugandan community. He supports numerous regional projects through the 'Team Hill Charitable Trust', including constructing schools and dormitories. He facilitates donations of essential supplies such as trainers, football equipment, and stationery and actively backs initiatives like the 'Make Women Smile' campaign.

Steve expressed his gratitude for the Points of Lights Award: "I’m thrilled to receive a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister. It’s such a huge honour and so unexpected! I want to thank everyone who supports the work of Team Hill Charitable Trust in our ongoing mission to make a difference in the world – they are all such a huge part of this amazing award. Thank you!"
