Answering all her questions about the Peak District correctly helped a High Peak woman become the 2022 BBC Mastermind Champion.

Alice Walker, 67, a retired IT consultant from Whaley Bridge, was seen winning the title on BBC Two on Tuesday night (11 April).

After answering all 14 questions on her specialist subject, which was the Peak District, Alice then secured 19 further points in the general knowledge round to beat her opponents by six points.

She said: “I applied for Mastermind after watching the programme and thought about entering for many years, but never expected to win, and it was quite a shock when I did!

“The opposition in the final was very tough but the questions just seemed to fall my way. It was a great experience and such an honour to receive the beautiful trophy."

The keen quizzer has been part of the Macclesfield and Stockport quiz league since the 1980s.
