Trains back running on Hope Valley line after earlier flooding

Rail services are operating again between Manchester and Sheffield following flooding at Chinley earlier on Thursday (14 January).

All rail services on the Hope Valley line were suspended for several hours, but operator Northern has confirmed that the line has now fully re-opened and trains are running - though some delays can be expected until further notice.

Passengers are advised to allow additional time for any journeys and to check ahead before travelling.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “I'd like to thank Network Rail for their assistance in clearing flood water which has allowed us to return services to the line this afternoon.

"I'd also like to thank our customers in Cumbria for their patience and understanding while the line was assessed.”

Northern customers are advised to check www.nationalrail.co.uk for the latest travel information.
