Open evening to mark 100th anniversary of Cenotaphs

An open evening and talk are to be held in Glossop to mark the 100th anniversary of the dedication of Glossop and Hadfield Cenotaphs.

Both Cenotaphs which are identical were unveiled on 26 March 1922 with ceremonies taking place first in Glossop and immediately afterwards in Hadfield.

Each has a stone base with bronze tablets that record the names of those who lost their lives. On top is a winged figure of Victory holding a laurel wreath.

To commemorate the anniversary, Glossop Heritage Trust is holding an open evening on Thursday 31 March at 7.30pm at The Victoria Hall, Talbot Street, Glossop.

Board Director Nigel Dunkerley will be giving a talk about the memorials, and the debates which preceded them and the actual dedication itself.

The talk is free, and all are welcome. As the maximum number the Trust can accommodate at The Victoria Hall is 50, entry will be on a first come, first served basis.
