Hadfield Infant School celebrates D Day anniversary

With the Glossop Victorian and Heritage Weekend coming up, the infant school decided to have their own day dedicated to D Day.

Staff and students dressed the part as well as decorating the school with 1940s memorabilia as they time travelled back to 1944.

The children spent the day reliving experiences of evacuees, taking part in a range of activities. Following a host of in-school period events such as cooking with rations, children boarded the train at Hadfield to Glossop and ate donuts as they waited to board the platform. Parents and grandparents met them there to wave them off.

Headteacher at the school, Francesca Dodd commented on the occasion: "As a school we want to ensure that children capitalise from this event. To do so, we decided to hold a collapsed-curriculum day."

"We also hosted our very own bespoke museum, where real-life artefacts were loaned from teachers and families whose family had served in World War 2. We ended the day with a good old-fashioned sing along with our Hadfield Infant community."

Francesca added: "I cannot thank my staff and parents enough for all contributing to what was a magical and memorable day, particularly Mrs O’Hara who went the extra mile in organising the full day."
