Glossop father's marathon effort to support children's hospital

A Glossop man is making a marathon effort to raise funds for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

James Horner, who works for the Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, is taking on two marathons and a half marathon this year and managed to complete the first at the weekend.

He is taking on the Great North Run in September, the Yorkshire Marathon in October and on Sunday completed the Manchester Marathon.

Speaking on Monday, he said: “Yesterday was amazing. I got round in 5 hours and am a bit sore this morning.

“I’m having a couple of days rest then back on with the training and I’m really looking forward to the next two.”

To boost fundraising, his daughter's school - St Andrew's C of E Junior School in Hadfield - held a non-uniform day last Friday, with the RMCH mascot Humphrey Bear also making an appearance.

James, who works at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester based in Nuclear Medicine, was inspired to raise funds after seeing the hard work that the charity team do.

He said: “I'm really proud to work for the NHS and want to give something back. I would like to raise £1,000 and would love local residents to get on board even with any fundraising ideas.”
