Glossop dance school to fundraise for Ukraine dancers

A Glossop dance school is joining thousands of others around the world to raise money for dancers in Ukraine.

Stardust Dance Centre is sending 40 pupils to the Blackpool Winter Gardens on 23 April to take part in the event.

The competition will feature dancers from around the world, who hope to raise £1 million between them.

It’s been organised by the World Dance Council to support Ukraine’s dancers as it’s such an important part of their culture. Anyone one who wants to enter can go to Blackpool on the day or join via Zoom.

Principal of Stardust Paula Graves told us: “We run the dance school out of the Place at Glossopdale School. I teach ballroom and Latin, pretty much what you see on Strictly Come Dancing. Even though it’s a competition we’re not taking part in that. Forty of our children will be dancing for an hour non-stop. They will be sponsored to raise money for the cause.”

Rebecca Giles, who also teaches at the school, said: “I think it’s really important for our children to do something positive and get involved in charity work because sometimes they don’t realise how lucky they are.”

Stardust is hoping to raise around £500. Anyone who wants to donate or sponsor a child can contact them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stardustdancecentre
