A call for urgent action to be taken to avoid work taking place on two major routes into Buxton at the same time has been made by High Peak MP Robert Largan.

It comes after High Peak Borough Council announced work is to begin on the A6 roundabout at Fairfield Common on Tuesday (1 March).

Preparatory site works will include utility works by Openreach for six weeks from mid-March and Cadent for eight weeks from mid-May, which will require ‘traffic control measures’, are expected to cause significant traffic delays.

The MP said it is anticipated that Derbyshire County Council intend to close the A5004 Long Hill for repairs from the end of April, which will overlap some of the proposed works on the A6.

He warned: “Such a move would almost completely cut off Buxton and cause complete and utter chaos on High Peak’s roads.

“I have contacted both councils to request an urgent meeting to discuss this, and I intend to bang some heads together.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “We’re aware that these two sets of works clash and are having discussions with all parties to find a solution.”
